The Grove, Charlton Adam: 3D Property Development Walkthrough

Bringing a new Somerset neighbourhood to life

Walkthrough by Charles Roberts Studios

The Grove is a carefully considered collection of 35 new homes in the Somerset village of Charlton Adam. Comprising two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, the development combines contemporary, energy-efficient living with an architectural character inspired by its rural setting.

Charles Roberts Studios was commissioned to create a detailed 3D walkthrough presenting the complete development before construction was finished. The animation allows potential purchasers to explore the layout, architecture and landscaping of The Grove, helping them understand how the new neighbourhood will look and feel once complete.

A development rooted in its surroundings

The architecture at The Grove has been designed to reflect the traditional character of Somerset while providing the comfort, space and energy efficiency expected from a modern home.

A varied palette of stone, render, timber detailing and tiled roofs gives the development a natural sense of variety. Locally sourced blue and white Lias stone strengthens the relationship between the new houses and the established buildings found throughout the surrounding area.

Rather than presenting the properties as isolated house types, the walkthrough shows how they work together as a complete neighbourhood. Changes in building height, materials, rooflines and orientation create a development that feels established and individual while retaining a consistent architectural identity.

The brief

The purpose of the animation was to help Grove Property communicate the wider vision for The Grove clearly and confidently.

Plans, elevations, material references and the proposed site layout were used to construct an accurate digital model of the development. Each house type was recreated to scale before being positioned within the masterplan, together with roads, driveways, boundaries, gardens and communal landscaping.

Particular attention was given to the relationship between the houses and the surrounding countryside. The development sits within a village setting close to Castle Cary, Somerton and Bruton, so it was important that the animation retained a sense of openness and connection to the Somerset landscape.

Creating the development in 3D

Once the architectural models had been completed, materials were applied to reproduce the planned stonework, render, roof finishes, windows and external detailing.

Landscaping played an equally important role. Trees, hedging, planting, lawns and garden boundaries were carefully introduced to soften the architecture and show how the scheme would mature over time. Cars, people and subtle everyday details were added to provide scale and create a believable residential atmosphere without distracting from the properties themselves.

The camera journey was planned to reveal the development gradually. Wider views establish the overall masterplan and its rural context, while lower-level sequences bring the viewer closer to the individual homes, streets and landscaped spaces.

This combination gives prospective buyers a clearer understanding of both the overall development and the experience of approaching and living within it.

Showing more than individual houses

Traditional architectural drawings are essential for construction, but they can be difficult for prospective purchasers to interpret. A 3D property walkthrough translates that technical information into a visual experience that is immediate and easy to understand.

Viewers can see the scale of the roads, the spacing between properties and the relationship between the different house types. They can also appreciate details that may be less obvious on a site plan, such as changing rooflines, garden outlooks, planting and the character of individual streets.

The animation helps position The Grove as more than a collection of new houses. It presents the scheme as a complete place, with its own identity, landscaping and connection to the existing village.

An important part of the wider development is also the refurbishment and extension of the neighbouring Fox & Hounds public house. Once reopened, the pub is intended to provide a local meeting place for residents and the wider Charlton Adam community.

Supporting off-plan property marketing

The completed walkthrough provides Grove Property and its sales team with a flexible marketing asset that can be used across the development website, social media, digital advertising, presentations and property portals.

It helps potential purchasers become familiar with The Grove before arranging a visit and gives buyers considering an unfinished plot greater confidence in the final appearance of the scheme.

Unlike a single CGI, an animation can communicate the full experience of moving through a development. It establishes location, scale and atmosphere while showing how individual homes contribute to the wider masterplan.

Visualising The Grove before completion

The Grove walkthrough demonstrates how architectural animation can turn a proposed residential development into a convincing and engaging visual story.

By combining accurate architectural modelling with carefully planned camera movement, realistic materials, landscaping and natural lighting, Charles Roberts Studios created a film that communicates both the detail of the homes and the character of the neighbourhood.

The result gives purchasers, stakeholders and the wider community a clear picture of how this new Somerset development will look and feel once complete.
