CRS Reveal planning impact visualisation

Charles Roberts Studios was commissioned to illustrate the potential visual impact of a major proposed development at Osney Mead, on the western edge of Oxford.

The scheme forms part of a wider strategy to transform the area into a new engineering and deep-tech campus. The submitted planning material proposes buildings ranging from approximately 20.7 metres to 27 metres in height, creating a substantial new built form close to the existing homes on Osney Island.

For residents, one of the main concerns was how the scale and massing of the development would affect views from the island and the surrounding waterways. Traditional plans, elevations and height diagrams can be difficult for members of the public to interpret, particularly when assessing the cumulative impact of several large buildings.

Showing the change clearly

Using an accurately positioned site photograph, planning information and the proposed building heights, we created a verified visual showing how the new development could appear from Osney Island.

The completed image was then presented using CRS Reveal, our interactive before-and-after comparison service. The slider allows viewers to move instantly between the existing view and the proposed development, making the change in scale, skyline and outlook much easier to understand.

Rather than presenting the proposal as an isolated architectural image, the visualisation places it directly within the existing environment. The surrounding homes, waterway, mature trees, industrial buildings and distant infrastructure remain visible, providing important context and a clear sense of proportion.
