We recently had the opportunity to work on an exciting project for a new farm shop in the serene countryside of England. The client approached us with the task of creating an appealing 3D visual to support a planning application in the Green Belt area. Drawing on our previous successful collaboration with the client on a glamping project, we eagerly embraced this new challenge and felt inspired to bring their vision to life.
Our design concept for the new farm shop revolved around creating a welcoming and charming space that elegantly blended with the natural surroundings. At the heart of our design was a unique entrance, ingeniously crafted to resemble a rowing boat on its side, made from traditional oak beams. This striking entrance not only served as a key focal point but also showcased the client's commitment to innovative and creative design. In addition to the primary retail area, we included a café and an inviting outdoor seating space where visitors could unwind and bask in the idyllic countryside setting.
We envisioned enhancing the area further by adopting a village green theme, incorporating a charming duck pond that would serve as a tranquil focal point. This rustic addition infused the design with character and established a serene atmosphere that aligned with the spirit of the countryside. To create a family-friendly environment, we ensured that a children's play area was part of the layout. This thoughtful inclusion aimed to provide a wholesome experience for visitors of all ages. Our holistic design approach sought to transform the farm shop into a destination that offered much more than products; it promised a rich experience firmly grounded in the natural beauty of its surroundings.
To bring the client’s vision to life, we embarked on the design process by sketching various ideas. We thoroughly considered the client's preferences and the site’s unique characteristics. After the client approved our design concept, we moved forward by creating a detailed 3D clay model that allowed us to present a comprehensive visual representation of the proposed farm shop. The 3D model provided an immersive understanding of how the final structure would interact with its environment, enabling the client to visualise their dream quickly and effectively.
Throughout this process, we paid particular attention to selecting materials that corresponded with the local vernacular. We chose soft handmade tiles and bricks, complemented by green oak for the framework. This deliberate selection of materials not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the farm shop but also ensured that it harmonised with the traditional architectural language characteristic of the region. Our use of natural materials contributed to creating an atmosphere that felt authentic and connected to its surroundings. We made sure that each element of the structure reflected a deep respect for the local culture and heritage, further embedding the farm shop in the heart of the community.
In conclusion, the design process for the proposed farm shop was a collaborative endeavour that aimed to celebrate the natural beauty of the English countryside while providing a practical and visually striking space for the local community. Through careful design considerations and a focus on elements that resonate with the area's spirit, we endeavoured to develop a 3D visual of the farm shop that would serve as both a community asset and a destination encapsulating the charm of rural England. This project not only reinforces our commitment to creating spaces that harmonise with their environment but also showcases our passion for delivering designs that cater to the community's needs. We look forward to seeing this concept come to fruition, offering visitors a delightful experience rooted in the pastoral beauty of the English countryside.
