Charles Roberts Studios was privileged to create a suite of photorealistic 3D renderings for a remarkable new country house in Surrey. This project combined architectural heritage with modern craftsmanship, allowing us to showcase how the proposed renovation would restore the building’s character while elevating it for contemporary living.

The property features classic mullion windows, a double-height space with a minstrel gallery, and a Lutyens-inspired dining table — all of which reflect the strong Arts and Crafts influence behind the design. Our renderings were commissioned to assist in marketing the home off-plan and to provide accurate visualisation support for both the main contractor and the Local Planning Authority (LPA).

Kitchen Design Inspired by Arts and Crafts Styles

The kitchen design pays homage to the timeless principles of Sir Edwin Lutyens and C.F.A. Voysey, two of Britain’s most influential Arts and Crafts architects. We recreated the space with meticulous attention to material quality, proportion, and handcrafted detailing.

The centrepiece is an elegant artisan chandelier suspended from the double-height ceiling, echoing traditional ironwork while adding a touch of modern refinement. Beneath it sits a circular dining table reminiscent of Lutyens’ famous design for Castle Drogo in Devon. The table’s solid timber construction and geometric base reflect the same blend of strength and simplicity that defined the original.

In visualising the scene, we carefully modelled every material — from the limestone flooring to the oak joinery — to ensure the final render communicated the warmth and authenticity of traditional craftsmanship. The soft interplay of daylight from the mullion windows reinforces a sense of calm and permanence, characteristics central to the Arts and Crafts aesthetic.

Restoration of Original Charm and Craftsmanship

The existing property had originally been designed in the style of C.F.A. Voysey, whose clean lines and integration with the landscape set a new standard for domestic architecture at the turn of the 20th century. The client and architect aimed to restore the home’s original charm while updating it for modern family life.

Our role was to bring that design intent vividly to life. By visualising the proposed interior and exterior spaces in high detail, we allowed all stakeholders — from planners to potential buyers — to appreciate the harmony between the restored architecture and the new design interventions.

Professional Drone Photography and 3D Rendering Integration

To ground the visualisations in real context, we used professional drone photography of the existing site. The resulting aerial imagery was integrated with our 3D renderings to produce seamless, photorealistic compositions showing how the renovated house would sit within its landscaped gardens and rolling Surrey countryside.

This hybrid workflow — combining photography with digital rendering — ensured that our visuals were not only beautiful but also architecturally accurate and geographically true to the site.

To further assist the client and planning team, Charles Roberts Studios developed a bespoke CRS Reveal® planning slider. This interactive feature allows viewers to compare before-and-after versions of the property by sliding seamlessly between existing conditions and proposed designs.

For this Surrey project, the CRS Reveal® slider provided an intuitive, visually striking way to demonstrate the scale and sensitivity of the renovation. It became a key asset in discussions with the Local Planning Authority and proved invaluable for marketing the home to buyers seeking confidence in the quality of the design and execution.
