New Home on Long Island, New York
Charles Roberts Studios produced day and dusk exterior renderings for a substantial new home on Long Island, New York. On a site like this, the house, the landscape and the approach all contribute to the value of the property, so the renderings needed to show all three together.
The design has a long principal elevation, a steeply pitched roof with dormers, louvered shutters and tall stone chimneys. It is traditional in its proportions and restrained in its detailing.
Rather than showing the house in isolation, the main view is built around the arrival. The curved drive, tiered fountain, stone steps and retaining walls lead toward the entrance portico. The viewpoint shows the full width of the house while keeping the perspective natural. Clipped shrubs, slender evergreens and white hydrangeas soften the scale of the elevation without taking attention from the architecture.
The daylight rendering explains the design. Soft natural light shows the roof forms, window detailing, stucco and stone chimneys clearly, and makes the material palette easy to read.
The dusk rendering shows the same view in the early evening. Warm interior light shows through the windows, the entrance becomes more prominent and landscape lighting picks out the approach. The sky, reflections and balance between interior and exterior lighting were reworked for this view, rather than simply darkening the daytime image.
The daytime image explains the design. The dusk image shows how the house might feel.
