For many products, the marketing process now begins long before the first finished item leaves the factory.

High-quality product visualisation allows manufacturers, designers and brands to create realistic imagery of a product directly from CAD drawings, technical information or design files. The result can look virtually indistinguishable from traditional photography, while giving far greater control over how and where the product is shown.
From furniture and appliances to lighting, fashion accessories and engineered products, CGI can provide a flexible library of imagery that can be used throughout the design, sales and marketing process.
Market a product before manufacture
One of the biggest advantages of product CGI is that photography no longer has to wait for a physical prototype or finished production model.
Once the design is sufficiently developed, a detailed 3D model can be created and used to produce marketing imagery while manufacturing is still underway.
For brands launching a new collection or product range, this can make a significant difference. Websites, brochures, sales presentations and advertising campaigns can be prepared in advance, allowing marketing activity to begin much earlier.
It is also particularly useful when products are being made overseas or when transporting prototypes to a photography studio would be expensive or impractical.
Complete creative control
Traditional product photography inevitably comes with practical limitations.
With CGI, there is no physical studio, camera or location to restrict what can be created.
Materials, finishes, lighting and camera angles can all be carefully controlled. A product can be shown against a simple studio background or placed within a completely bespoke interior or exterior environment.
The same model can also be used to demonstrate different colours, materials or configurations without having to manufacture and photograph every variation individually.
This makes product visualisation particularly effective for companies offering extensive ranges or configurable products.
Showing products in context
Sometimes a standalone product image is not enough.
Customers often need to understand how an item will look when it is actually being used. A piece of furniture, such as our work for Savoir Beds, can be positioned within a carefully designed room, while appliances and architectural products can be shown in realistic environments created specifically around them.
These environments do not need to exist in the real world.
We can create them specifically around the product, giving complete control over the architecture, styling, lighting and atmosphere while keeping the product itself as the focus of the image.
This can be considerably more practical than sourcing locations, transporting products and organising a traditional photographic shoot.
One 3D model, many possibilities
Creating the initial 3D product model is often only the beginning.
Once built, the asset can be reused to create:
- alternative viewpoints and close-up details
- different colours, finishes and materials
- lifestyle and studio imagery
- seasonal marketing campaigns
- product animations
- 360° presentations
- website and social media content
- future product variations
This ability to reuse the same digital asset can make CGI particularly valuable for brands producing large amounts of visual content.
It also helps maintain consistency. Instead of commissioning different photography for each campaign, the same product model, materials and lighting approach can be carried across an entire range.
Product animation
The same 3D assets can also be developed into animation.
Rather than simply showing what a product looks like, animation can demonstrate how it works, how components move or how different features interact.
For more technical products, it can reveal internal components or show processes that would be difficult to communicate through photography alone.
For consumer products, animation can provide engaging content for websites, exhibitions, presentations and social media.
CGI, photography and AI
AI-generated imagery is developing rapidly and can be extremely useful during the creative process, particularly for exploring ideas and environments.
However, where the exact design of a product matters, a properly constructed 3D model still provides far greater control.
Dimensions, materials, proportions and details can be accurately represented, and the same approved model can then be reproduced consistently from multiple viewpoints.
Rather than replacing one another, CGI, photography and AI are increasingly becoming complementary tools. The right approach depends on the product, the stage of development and how the final imagery will be used.
Creating imagery before the product exists
Perhaps the most powerful aspect of product visualisation is that the finished marketing image is no longer dependent on the finished physical product.
A design can be presented realistically while it is still being developed, allowing manufacturers and brands to review ideas, gain approval, prepare marketing material and begin selling much earlier in the process.
At Charles Roberts Studios, we create high-quality product CGI for manufacturers, designers and brands, from individual hero images through to complete collections of product imagery, environments and animation.
If you have CAD data, drawings or even an early-stage product design, we can help turn it into imagery ready for presentation and marketing.
